A dashboard should answer a decision question. For a small shop, that might be which product categories generate repeat orders and where returns are rising.
Start with a clear goal
First define each measure and date range. Clean inconsistent labels, missing dates and duplicates. Keep a separate record of changes so the result can be checked.
Build the practical skill
Create a few charts with clear titles and comparable scales. Add filters only when they help answer a question. Explain what changed, where it changed and one action worth testing. Avoid claiming that correlation proves the cause.
Check the result
An employer or client should be able to follow the chain from original data to a calculation and then to a recommendation. Include a data dictionary and a short methods note alongside the dashboard.
